Agilent Technologies expands HPLC-Chip/MS with five new chips

Agilent Technologies has expanded its line of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) chip/mass spectrometry (MS) modules, introducing five chips for the study of small and large molecules.

Agilent's HPLC-Chip technology combines nanoflow HPLC with an electro spray ionization source in a reusable micro fluidic chip, which is smaller than a credit card. Agilent's first two HPLC-Chips, the Protein ID chips and the MS Calibration and Diagnostic chip, were introduced about a year ago. Based on enthusiastic customer response, Agilent developed the additional five chips to cover a wider range of applications.

The HPLC-Chip/MS makes the dramatic sensitivity increases promised by nano spray LC/MS attainable by more researchers, thanks to elimination of half the fittings and connections of conventional nanoflow LC/MS systems. This reduces the potential for leaks and dead volumes while significantly simplifying workflow and reliability.

"Agilent strives to streamline customers' entire workflows," said Chris van Ingen, president of Agilent's chemical analysis and life sciences group. "The plug-and-play aspects of these chips unlock the profound benefits of nanoflow analysis for researchers hindered by the complexities of conventional nanoflow systems."

Father of the Internet in India

When Anil Garg set up the ERNET in 1988, networking eight academic institutes in India via e-mail, it ushered in the Internet era in the country. Rajneesh De traces the two-decade-long illustrious career of the man, acknowledged as the creator of the Internet in India

He was the one who literally built the Internet in India. He wrote the first multi-user OS for computers in the country. He also first developed the prototype of what later would be called a portal. And, he was the first to develop an ERP solution specially catering to a media company. No wonder, he is one of the most lustrous stars in the Indian IT firmament. This is the story of Anil Garg, currently the vice president-IT with Sony Entertainment Television, and one who has donned a number of hats during the last two decades in his path- breaking role as a pioneer in the advent of IT in India.
